TRANSAVIA awarded SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT OF THE YEAR: ENVIRONMENT at the Business Review Awards Gala
TRANSAVIA's long-standing commitment to mitigating environmental impact as much as possible and contributing to the quality of life of consumers and communities was honored last night at the 18th annual Business Review Awards Gala, which yesterday evening (06 March 2023) celebrated "business champions".
The SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT OF THE YEAR: ENVIRONMENT award recognizes our efforts towards sustainability and sustainable development and the innovative elements we have integrated, from bean to fork, to positively impact the environment and ensure a greener future for generations to come.
Our sustainability strategy, from bean to fork, constantly identifies opportunities for green, profitable growth, and is based on the care and responsibility we all have at TRANSAVIA for employees, the environment, animal welfare and responsible production, as well as social impact involvement in the community.
The ZERO-waste policy also means recovering everything you can so that virtually no waste is generated. We pay particular attention to the management of used bedding taken out of the halls, which is recycled circularly by use as organic fertilizer on the land managed by the company (over 10,000 hectares) on the vegetable farms owned.
As far as energy efficiency is concerned, there are concerns at all levels: absolutely all production premises are energy efficient, well built, well insulated, with central ventilation and heating systems, with economic lighting, so that energy consumption is as low as possible. There is massive investment in green energy and energy efficiency solutions, with the largest project of its kind in the food industry in our country, with implementation in all 56 of our sites. The investment of around €35 million, from its own funds, started in 2022 and is planned to be completed by the end of this year, will almost entirely cover the electricity needed. At the end of the project in 2023, about 18 million kg of CO2 will be removed annually, equivalent to planting 841,000 trees a year (a 900ha forest) or the annual electricity consumption of a town of 56,000 inhabitants, such as Turda, for example.
We are the only company in the sector to have published Sustainability Reports in line with GRI standards since 2019. Since the first Sustainability Report in 2019, the company has set ambitious sustainability targets aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Significant progress and early achievement of most of the targets set has led to a new step in this journey of caring for people, animals, the environment, and communities and the setting of new targets for the coming years, until 2030 (reported to 2020 dates), already included in the Sustainability Report published on the company's website.
We have raised the sustainability bar for the food sector, being the only Romanian company that has assumed the necessary standards to be a co-signatory of the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Business and Marketing Practices in the Food Sector. Also, since 2018, we have implemented the Global G.A.P. standard of good practices and sustainability in agriculture, thus achieving a first in the Romanian meat industry. And the rest of the certifications (ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, BRC Food v7, Halal) that it has contributed to the confidence that consumers and partners have in the company's products. All these concrete actions reaffirm the efforts and actions taken to grow the business in a healthy and sustainable way, with a strong orientation towards sustainable production, environmental care, social responsibility, and employees.
Thank you Business Review for promoting the Romanian business environment for 25 years. Congratulations to all 2023 Business Review Awards winners and nominees in each category!
Congratulations to all the TRANSAVIA TEAM!
