From Grain to Fork and Back Again
Responsible Treatment of Chickens. Animal Welfare

TRANSAVIA Celebrates Sustainability Day with Gold and Silver Recognitions in the Community Index® 2024

The recent Gold and Silver awards received by TRANSAVIA in the Community Index® 2024 reaffirm that sustainability is a responsibility the well-regarded, family-owned, 100% Romanian business assumes daily.

In the context of Sustainability Day, marked in Romania on October 27, Theodora Popa, Vice President of TRANSAVIA, highlights the importance of initiatives that inspire and educate: “Through our concrete initiatives, we aim to inspire and educate the market, demonstrating that sustainability is not just a choice, but a responsibility we uphold day by day. Sustainability Day offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the impact of our actions and to celebrate the achievements that reinforce our commitment to responsible production. The Gold and Silver awards in the 2024 Community Index® reflect our commitment to setting industry benchmarks for the highest standards, consistently doing the right way, from grain to fork.”

As the only Romanian poultry producer certified by GLOBAL S.L.P., the leading global certification program for animal farm best practices, TRANSAVIA received a Gold award in the Animal Protection category in the Community Index® 2024. An in-depth analysis of 43 indicators aligned with international standards for community investment showed that the project "Responsible Treatment of Chickens. Animal Welfare" pursues the use of the best economic and ecological practices and technologies throughout all production activities.

We are pleased to see our efforts toward responsible production recognized, ensuring safe, high-quality products that contribute to consumer safety and satisfaction, while respecting animal welfare and the environment. We are also proud that the Community Index® 2024 experts’ evaluation validates our commitment to doing what we say and saying what we do,” said Theodora Popa, Vice President of TRANSAVIA.

The award-winning project is based on the GLOBAL S.L.P. (Smart Livestock Practices Standards) certification obtained by TRANSAVIA earlier this year, following an audit of its chicken farms with zero non-conformities. As Romania’s leading poultry sector, TRANSAVIA supports sustainable agri-food practices, protects the environment, and ensures product quality and safety, with a positive impact on public health.

The GLOBAL S.L.P. standard is based on years of research with international experts, designed to support better consumer and environmental protection, sustainable production, and social and animal welfare. It integrates the best general practices aimed at reducing resource waste and ensuring sustainability for future generations, applying scientific criteria that exceed legal requirements, are economically feasible, and can be quantified and audited,” explained Marian Sabău, Quality and Food Safety Director of TRANSAVIA.

In the 2024 Community Index, which evaluated over 850 projects in 21 categories, TRANSAVIA also received Silver in the Reduce Reuse Recycle category for the project "From Grain to Fork and Back Again," aiming to fully utilize non-edible byproducts from the technological chain, effectively avoiding waste generation.

As one of the largest employers in the food industry and operating sustainably across eight counties, TRANSAVIA has a 100% vertically integrated business model with owned facilities based on best practices and strict protocols across the entire production and distribution chain, from farm to fork. TRANSAVIA is the only producer in the country to offer chicken meat exclusively from its owned farms, ensuring superior safety and quality.

The Romanian poultry market leader has published Sustainability Reports since 2019 and is the only 100% Romanian-owned company to commit to EU Code of Conduct for Responsible Business and Marketing Practices in the Food Sector.

Community Index highlights good practices and strategic projects that focus on aspects such as stakeholder engagement or medium and long-term impact measurement. The distinction in the Community Index is based on a database of over 850 projects or programs, implemented in the past year, serving as a benchmarking tool for programs or projects implemented for the benefit of communities and helping with a deeper understanding of the local and national context.
